Hirofumi Kurita was born in Odawara city, Kanagawa prefecture.
In 1988, he won the 1st place in the 23rd Tokyo International Music Competition Conduct Command Division and gained a lot of attention. In the following year, he debuted with conductor of the New Star Japan Symphony Orchestra, the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.
Afterwards he lead the domestic major orchestras such as Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.
In Europe in 1989. In the same year, he won 1st prize at the Antonio Pedrotti International Conductor Competition in Italy and gained an international evaluation. Following the conductor of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, he get the highest place of the Sibelius International Conductor Competition held in Helsinki, Finland in May 1995. In September of the same year he was invited from the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra to fulfill the European debut and got great popularity. Since then, he has performed at the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. and is steadily carrying career as a conductor.
He is also a visiting professor at the National Music College, as well as actively conducting domestic and overseas leadership, and is also devoting himself to teaching backwards.
In addition to having a wide range of repertoire from classical music classics to contemporary works, he is actively collaborating with various genres. Future success is a conductor that draws even more attention.
